GPAR 

The project the new headquarters of MBA, an innovative asturian medical company, is located into an important historical site, in the Science and Technology Park of Gijòn, Spain.

The original manufacture was a tipical 20th century agricoltural building, featured by eight well conserved cylindrical Silos, used in the past for wheat storage.

The project guidelines follow the current and crucial issue of suburnban recovery and reconversion,

keeping everything that speaks of the past and adapting it to the demands of a society that will come, transforming an agricultural-industrial pre-existence into the headquarters of a hi tech medical company, with the obvious responsibility of creating a complex with low energy impact. Gijon’s identity is changing: from city of factories to factory of ideas.

 

The reconversion project leaves the industrial skeleton intact, converting the empty space between the Silos into a useful surface, covering the current plaza-garden with a light metal glazed structure equipped with passive climate control mechanism.

The work therefore, would consist of the bioclimatic closure between the two large blocks of Silos and the creation of useful surfaces in one of the blocks, while the second would simply recover as memory.

On the industrial skeleton rise a building that believes in technology as a solution for the coexistence of man with his planet.
